Insecurity is a waste of time. Fashion should be fun. It shouldn’t be labelled intellectual. Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it. You can only go forward by making mistakes. Nostalgia is a very complicated subject for me. I’m attracted by nostalgia but I refuse it intellectually.
I couldn’t love a woman who inspired me to be totally disinterested. If I fell in love with a woman for an artistic reason, or from the point of view of my work, I think it would rob her of something. Fashion never stops. There is always the new project, the new opportunity. Success isn’t about the end result, it’s about what you learn along the way. I believe that my clothes can give people a better image of themselves – that it can increase their feelings of confidence and happiness. I want people to be afraid of the women I dress.
I am never satisfied with myself and that is what keeps me going – I have no post-satisfaction. I adore the challenge of creating truly modern clothes, where a woman’s personality and sense of self are revealed. I want people to see the dress, but focus on the woman. I’ve treated the waistcoat as if it were a corset, so that it becomes the first layer in the process of putting clothes on the body. There is constant motion between layering and revealing. Everything I do is a matter of heart, body and soul. I am convinced that you don’t need to spend a fortune to look like a million.
My dresses are very reasonably priced, for dresses that are cut on the body. Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury. I believe in comfort. If you don’t feel comfortable in your clothes, it’s hard to think of anything else. I’ve always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet. People said making clothes inside out was not proper. I disagreed, because clothes that are inside out are as beautiful as a cathedral.
The key to my collections is sensuality. I am convinced that there can be luxury in simplicity. We look our best in subdued colors, sophisticated cuts, and a general air of sleek understatement. Design and style should work toward making you look good and feel good without a lot of effort so you can get on with the things that matter. Give me time and I’ll give you a revolution.
